Craig Montell is a Distinguished Professor and the Patricia and Robert Duggan Professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is the author of 200 research articles and reviews at Science, Nature, Cell and many other scientific journals, primarily in the area of neuroscience, and most recently on understanding... read morehow mosquito sense human-derived cues and home in on people. He is best known for his discovery of proteins that allow animals to sense chemicals, light and temperatures in the environment. He received his B.A. in Bacteriology from the University of California, Berkeley, and his Ph.D. in Microbiology at UCLA. He was a Professor for 25 years at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, before moving to the University of California Santa Barbara early in 2013. He is the recipient of honorary doctorate degrees from the Baylor College of Medicine, and the Katholieke Universiteit in Leuven, Belgium. Dr. Montell is an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the recipient of the Director’s Pioneer Award from the National Institutes of Health.
