Biography

Ana Fernandez-Sesma obtained her BSc and MSc in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Salamanca, Spain. She then moved to the United States, and continued the rest of her scientific career at Mount Sinai School of Medicine (MSSM) in New York, where she initially worked on influenza virus replication under... read morethe direction of Dr. Peter Palese in the Department of Microbiology. She obtained her PhD degree at the Graduate School for Biomedical Sciences of MSSM working in influenza virus and the generation of bi-specific antibodies. Her postdoctoral studies were also performed at MSSM under the direction of Thomas Moran on the innate immune responses to influenza virus infection and vaccinations in murine models. Since 2005 she has been a faculty member in the Department of Microbiology at MSSM (renamed Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, ISMMS) focused on the human innate immune responses to human viruses, such as dengue virus. She was promoted to Professor with tenure in 2016 in the Department of Microbiology at ISMMS.
