Before moving to Imperial College London, he spent... read more19 years at the University of Oxford, which included obtaining both his undergraduate honours degree in biochemistry, his Ph.D. in virology and three postdoctoral positions.
His research interests lie in understanding how the interactions between the genome and the environment give rise to common diseases, focusing in particular on the genomics, epigenetics and transcriptomics of obesity. He is currently working on two main areas: the specific mechanisms that underlie the development of asthma in obese people and the role of genetics in female urinary incontinence, where obesity is a strong predisposing factor. He has presented his research at the major international genetics conferences and is currently an editorial board member of the online journal SpringerPlus.
