Biography

Dr Rachel Gillespie is a Research Associate based at the Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine within the University of Manchester, UK. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Liverpool before moving on to Newcastle University to undertake post-graduate studies in Medical Genetics. Following NHS training in Genomic Diagnostics,... read moreshe completed her PhD investigating the molecular genetic basis of conditions featuring paediatric cataract at the University of Manchester, in 2015. Her research interests are the genomics of rare developmental conditions, particularly those affecting the eye. Currently, Rachel’s work focusses on the identification of novel causes of inherited retinal disease and congenital eye anomalies using advanced sequencing technologies and bioinformatics, and the investigation of suspected pathogenic genetic variants using in vivo and in vitro expression analysis systems.
