Abba J. Kastin was educated at Harvard College and Medical School. After starting his work on neuropeptides at NIH, he went to Louisiana where he now holds an endowed chair at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center. Author of more than 800 papers, he has been listed among the 100 researchers... read moremost cited in the scientific literature. He is President of The International Neuropeptide Society, editor-in-chief of the international journal Peptides, and editor of the comprehensive Handbook of Biologically Active Peptides. During the past year, in recognition of the concepts he introduced into the peptide field, Dr. Kastin has been awarded an honorary doctorate from Uppsala University (Sweden), honorary professorship in the Peking University Health Science Center, and honorary memberships in the Brazilian Society of Toxinology and Indian Society of Comparative Endocrinology. One of these concepts showed that peptides can cross the blood-brain barrier.
