Austin Hughes was a Carolina Distinguished Professor of Biological Sciences and Director of the Institute for Biological Research and Technology at the University of South Carolina. Austin made many valuable contributions to the field of adaptive evolution during his career, and authored 2 books on the topic, as well as numerous papers. He passed away on 31st October 2015, and is survived by his wife Andrea.
