He received his medical doctor degree from the University of Guadalajara, Mexico, and his PhD in evolutionary biology and... read morepopulation genetics from Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, Spain. He received his postdoctoral training at Cornell and Stanford University mentored by Professor Carlos D. Bustamante. His current area of research is human population genomics in general, with particular interest in Native American and admixed Latino populations throughout the Americas.
