He carried out postdoctoral training with Dr. Phillip Sharp at MIT. His research career focused on the role of transcription factors in melanocyte development and melanoma, particularly the MITF transcription factor. After leading a laboratory at Dana Farber for 15 years he became Chairman of Dermatology at Massachusetts General Hospital in 2008, where he also serves as Director of the Melanoma Program at MGH Cancer Center.
