Dr. Scott is a Professor of Dermatology and Pathology at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. She has investigated normal melanocyte biology for over 25 years, with a focus on how environmental factors, including ultraviolet irradiation, regulate melanocyte pigmentation. Her early work investigated the factors that controlled human melanocytes... read morepatterning in the skin during embryogenesis, followed by work defining factors produced by keratinocytes that affect melanocyte function. Dr. Scott has helped to identify the mechanisms by which pigment in the skin is transferred, and has shown that a large class of neural guidance molecules control melanocyte growth and survival. Her current work is focused on defining the function of a phosphatase in normal melanocyte function, and in the multilentigine disease LEOPARD syndrome.
