John Birge is the Jerry W. and Carol Lee Levin Professor of Operations Management at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He received his A.B. in mathematics from Princeton University and his M.S. and Ph.D. in operations research from Stanford University. He has published more than 70 journal... read morearticles and two books mainly focused on application, theory, and computation for decision making under uncertainty, particularly in operational and financial settings. Prior to joining Chicago Booth, he held faculty appointments at the University of Michigan and at Northwestern University, where he also served as dean of engineering. He has consulted for a variety of corporations and public institutions and has received numerous awards including election to the National Academy of Engineering for contributions to the theory of optimization under uncertainty.
