Biography

Peter Lipke is a microbiologist interested in cell surfaces of fungi. He has a BSci in Chemistry from U. Chicago and a PhD in Biochemistry from U. California Berkeley. He has been a professor of biology at Hunter and Brooklyn Colleges of City University of New York since 1978. His... read moregroup’s most recent work is on how protein amyloids affect fungal aggregation and adhesion to host, host response to colonization by fungi, and whether amyloid-targeted drugs can be developed as antifungals. His interests also include science education, minority opportunities in science, mentoring and student development. He was awarded the Am. Soc. Microbiology Hinton Award in 2018 for helping to diversify the profession of microbiology. He has authored over 100 papers and several patent applications. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology and a Fellow of the AAAS.
