Karl Swann is the Chair of Reproductive Cell Biology in the School of Medicine at Cardiff University. He obtained his BSc and PhD qualifications at University College London, working as a graduate student in Michael Whitaker's laboratory. In 2004 Karl moved to take up his current post in Cardiff University to work alongside Tony Lai who is a long term collaborator. Karl's interests are in the mechanism and consequences of Ca2+ oscillations in mammalian eggs, and his lab uses fluorescent and chemiluminescent probes.
