Biography

Edward D. Hall is Director of the University of Kentucky Spinal Cord & Brain Injury Research Center. He received his undergraduate training from Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio followed by his doctorate in pharmacology from the Cornell University Graduate School of Medical Sciences. After a postdoctoral fellowship at the... read moreCornell University Medical College, he was an Assistant and Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine after which he spent 20 years leading drug discovery efforts aimed at neurotrauma, stroke and neurodegenerative diseases at The Upjohn Company, Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical Research and Pfizer Global Research & Development. He returned to academia at the University of Kentucky in 2002 where he is William R. Markesbery, M.D. Chair in Neurotrauma Research and Professor of Anatomy & Neurobiology, Neurosurgery, Neurology and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. He is an elected member of the National Spinal Cord Injury Association Spinal Cord Injury Hall of Fame. His National Institutes of Health-funded research is focused on the role of free radical-induced oxidative damage in brain and spinal cord injury and the discovery of antioxidant neuroprotective therapies.
