Biography

Carla Maria Pedrosa Ribeiro, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine/Pulmonary Division and The Cystic Fibrosis Center. She received her PhD from Duke University (Durham, North Carolina) where she was a Graduate Student in the Department of Cell Biology, Division of Physiology Her studies in Graduate School... read moredealt with the regulation of the Na+/K+-ATPase by parathyroid hormone in the renal proximal tubule. Her postdoctoral studies were carried out at the National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Environmental and Health Sciences (Research Triangle Park, North Carolina) in the field of intracellular calcium signaling. In 1998 Carla joined the Cystic Fibrosis Center at UNC (Chapel Hill, North Carolina) and initiated studies that led to the discovery that human cystic fibrosis airway epithelia exhibit exaggerated calcium signals in response to extracellular agonists. These initial observations led to her current studies on the role of ER stress in cystic fibrosis airway inflammation.
