José M. Cuezva graduated in Biology at Universidad del País Vasco, Spain. He obtained a PhD in Biochemistry from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). He joined the Centro de Biología Molecular “Severo Ochoa” (CBMSO) and in 1998 became Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the UAM. For many years the research interests of his laboratory at the UAM have been the characterization of the mechanisms that control the expression and activity of the mitochondrial ATP synthase both in development and in cancer. His lab has developed a large collection of conditional tissue-specific transgenic and knockout mice of IF1, the physiological inhibitor of the ATP synthase.
