1 TalkBiography
Immo E. Scheffler has been teaching and conducting research at the University of California in San Diego since 1971. After a Master’s degree in physical organic chemistry from the University of Manitoba, Canada, he obtained a PhD degree in biochemistry from Stanford University and further training as a postdoctoral fellow... read morein enzymology (Harvard Medical School) and somatic cell genetics (Pasteur Institute, Paris). Among other areas, research has focused on the biochemical and molecular genetic analysis of a series of respiration-deficient Chinese hamster cells isolated in the laboratory. These became model systems for the study of the assembly of the mitochondrial electron transport chain. Immo Scheffler is the author of a comprehensive book on mitochondria, now available in a second edition (Wiley-Liss, 2008). He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
