Biography

Joris Vermeesch is Head of the Constitutional Cytogenetics Unit of the Center for Human Genetics, Leuven, Belgium, Professor of Molecular Cytogenetics and Genome Research and co-ordinator of the genomics core at the university hospital and is president of the Belgium Society of Human Genetics. He developed and introduced molecular karyotyping... read morein clinical diagnostics, identified several novel syndromes and disorders and pushed the limits of array-CGH to detect chromosomal imbalances in single cells. He founded the working group Molecular Karyotyping in the European Cytogenetics Association, is founder of the European external quality control schemes for array-CGH and teaches on molecular karyotyping for the European Genetics Foundation.
