His research focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of acute lung injury and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), with particular interests in lung inflammation, endothelial barrier function, cell-to-cell communication, and mitochondrial biology. Dr. Bhattacharya has led an NIH-funded research program for more than three decades, received numerous prestigious awards for his scientific contributions, and has mentored many investigators who have gone on to successful academic careers.
