Jon Raphael has been working in the field of pain management for the past 12 years. He splits his time between clinical practice and university research work. He holds an Honorary Professorship at... read moreBirmingham City University, from where he heads up a Masters programme in pain studies, serves on the editorial board of pain journals, supervises several PhD students and has published many research articles and book chapters. He trained in medicine in Glasgow, Scotland obtaining his medical degree (MB, ChB) and in anaesthesia in Leicester, England obtaining his anaesthetic fellowship (FRCA). Following this he spent several years as a university lecturer and obtained his medical degree by research (MD). He was awarded the inaugural prize of the Welsh Pain Society for his research work on opioids for spinal pain.
