Biography

Mark Iles is Associate Professor in Genetic Epidemiology at the University of Leeds. After completing an undergraduate degree in Mathematics at the University of Bristol and an MSc in Biometry at the University at Reading, he completed a PhD at the University of Leeds under the supervision of Prof Tim... read moreBishop. Since then he has worked at the University of Sheffield and the Karolinska Institute before returning to Leeds. He was awarded the International Genetic Epidemiology Society’s James V Neel Young Investigator Award in 2004. He is interested in both methodological and applied research related to the analysis of the genetics underlying disease risk and has focused particularly on melanoma and vasculitis in recent years. He runs the MSc in Precision Medicine: Genomic Data Science and contributes to the Genomic Medicine with Data Science (online) MSc, both at the University of Leeds and both focussing on teaching genomic data science skills to students from the biological sciences and medicine.
