Abstract
In reference to the paper ‘Road to integrating facility management (FM) into corporate real estate management: Case study — Bayer’ (Corporate Real Estate Journal Volume 8 Number 4), this paper provides insights on the added value of a ‘global strategic facilities management (SFM) function’ and implementing Integrated FM (IFM) programmes in huge corporations. Moreover, it provides insights, practical steps and learnings on how to successfully implement IFM programmes in a strong collaboration with internal stakeholders and another enabling function like procurement in a phase where the whole world has faced a significant challenge by coping with a pandemic. Out of the pandemic and new hybrid working settings, the idea of ‘dynamic facilities management’ is borne. Therefore, a short outlook on a future strategy is shared, which should open another chapter of adding value to Bayer.

Author's Biography
Frederic Krabbe has the master’s and bachelor’s degrees in facility management and began his career at REMONDIS and worked as a facility and energy manager with a focus on site management for five years. In 2014, he joined Bayer Real Estate as a facility manager. In several projects, Frederic developed facility management (FM) on a tactical and operational level. After two years, he became part of the global strategic FM initiative at Bayer. From 2017 to mid-2018, he led this initiative. From mid-2018 to the beginning of 2020, Frederic was responsible for global standards and best practises as well as global FM country contact for North America, Latin America and Asia Pacific. In 2020, he took over the role of global and regional (EMEA) category lead for FM within procurement and he was responsible for the global purchasing strategy of facility services and purchasing facility services for EMEA region. After 10 years at the end of 2024, Frederic left Bayer, joined Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) and became the head of client sourcing for DACH region.
Emily Wotzka began her career, after her studies at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, with various abroad projects related to processes and logistics in Hong Kong. After coming back to Germany, she worked in the Consulting Business. In 2009, she joined Bayer Global Procurement to optimise, purchase and negotiate consulting services. In her next role as a Global Process Owner, she designed global standardised processes and wrote and implemented group regulations in this area. Followed by her next role as the Head of Holding Services, she took care of a central department handling various service functions next to the Board of Bayer AG. Within this role, some corporate real estate tasks were also included with a focus on the Headquarters. After joint projects with Bayer’s corporate real estate, she took over the Role of Global Strategic Facilities Management (SFM) to design global strategies, implement integrated facility management and define the future targets and vision for FM together with Frederic Krabbe.
