Abstract
In an era where increasing globalisation, continuing budget reductions and rising customer expectations continue to directly influence a shift in how we manage facilities, ‘high performance’ facility professionals need capabilities edge to further validate how the services that our teams provide are vital to organisational business continuity and longevity. Facilities asset management planning (FAMP) offers an innovative new approach towards examining operational planning capability, appropriate levels of customer focus and performance-based data usage. This methodology integrates facilities and business life cycle portfolio management activities to systematically enable the efficient, effective and economic functionality of the facility portfolio so it strategically aligns with enabling the accomplishment of organisational goals.

Author's Biography
Thomas L. Mitchell Jr. serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for FM3IS Associates, LLC, an advisory and assistance support facility management consulting firm specialised in providing solutions that advance the performance of an organisation’s three most valuable resources: their workforce, workplace and work processes. With over 29 years of experience serving in leadership positions within the government, commercial and not-for-profit industries, Tom develops, implements and evaluates corporate strategy, while directing business operations supporting associates specialised in the development and delivery of service offerings in the areas of facility portfolio performance, workforce capability development and organisational leadership alignment. Tom holds a Bachelor of Science degree in architectural studies from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical (A&M) University, a Masters-level certificate in facility management from Michigan State University, a Master of Arts degree in management from Webster University, and a Master of Military Operational Arts and Science degree from Air University. He is a fellow of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) and served as chairman of the IFMA 2009–2010 Board of Directors. He presently serves as chairman of the Florida A&M University Facility Management Degree Program Advisory Council, a director on the US National Institute of Building Science’s Board of Directors, and a member of the US State Department Bureau of Overseas Building Operation Industry Advisory Group.
