Invite colleaguesEnhancing cybercrime investigations : Orchestration of automation and public–private collaboration to combat online payment fraud in Ukraine
Abstract
As modern society becomes increasingly digitised, so do the methods employed by cybercriminals. This shift has resulted in a significant and persistent rise in online fraud and scams targeting bank clients. Ukraine has been particularly affected by this trend since 2014, when Russian aggression created psychological conditions that rendered citizens more vulnerable to such threats. Consequently, banks and law enforcement agencies have faced a rising tide of reports from victims. In response to this growing challenge, the Ukrainian Interbank Payment Systems Members Association (EMA) began exploring ways to enhance the effectiveness of investigations into cybercrime. This led to the development of the CrimeCheck online service for the Cyberpolice Department. This paper outlines the background and motivation behind the creation of this service, its current stage of development, the results achieved thus far, and planned future initiatives.
