Abstract
This paper explores the communications strategy and campaign developed by the University of East Anglia (UEA) for a major media announcement — the discovery of the royal shipwreck, the Gloucester. It will look at how the campaign, which involved collaboration between various teams within UEA’s Admissions, Recruitment and Marketing division and external partners, was planned and delivered, the outcomes achieved and lessons learnt.

Author's Biography
Cat Bartman joined the University of East Anglia (UEA) in 2006, having been a Chief Reporter at the Eastern Daily Press. As a News and Media Manager, she has worked with researchers across the university, achieving national and international media coverage for studies ranging from the benefits of swearing in the workplace and boredom for creativity to the impact of the Ukraine war on eagle migration. In recent years, she has mainly focused on environmental, climate and social sciences, and supported academics commenting in the media and producing research during the COVID-19 pandemic on issues such as homeschooling and the pandemic’s impact on young carers and carbon emissions. Cat has previously led communications for the annual Global Carbon Budget and subsequently the launch of the inaugural State of Wildfires report.
Laura Potts has worked in the News, Media and Research Engagement Team, University of East Anglia (UEA), for more than a decade, mainly with the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, and additionally promoting research from across UEA in the international media. Prior to this, she was a journalist in the USA and UK. Graduating with a BA in journalism from Michigan State University in 2000, Laura worked at the Associated Press and then the Detroit Free Press, where she covered government and later healthcare, winning awards for her series on the juvenile mental health crisis. Relocating to England in 2005, she covered breaking news, enterprise and investigative stories for McClatchy Publishing Company and other news outlets, including the BBC and USA Today.
