Abstract
Risk management within financial services firms traditionally has been viewed as a control and reactive function, divorced to a large extent from the strategic decision-making process. In the wake of the current economic crisis, this paper highlights the key components necessary for building a robust enterprise risk management framework and argues that such a process creates for an institution a strategic hedge against performance disruptions.

Author's Biography
Prodyot Samanta has several years of experience in designing and implementing ERM frameworks for global corporations. He is currently the founder and CEO of ThirdEye Risklnsights, which provides guidance and leadership on ERM strategy, assessments, education and research to corporate boards and senior management. Prodyot was recognised by Treasury and Risk magazine as ‘one of the 100 most influential individuals in finance’. He is a frequent speaker at domestic and international risk conventions and is a Charter Member of ‘Risk Who’s Who’.
