Abstract
This paper details the implementation of data mining and other artificial intelligence technologies at the media archives of Yle, the Finnish Broadcasting Company. The paper discusses Yle’s strategy for the adoption and application of automated technologies, with a view to providing practical advice to organisations intending to move from pilot projects into the more routine use of such technologies. Current methodologies are also described and analysed, along with the continuous development and design processes that have achieved these results.

Author's Biography
Lauri Saarikoski is a development manager for the archives at Yle, the Finnish Broadcasting Company. He provides expert support to different archive teams in such areas as operational and technical planning, strategy, collaboration and project management. He has over 15 years of experience in music and media archive work, focusing on metadata, research and development, agile development and management. He is an active member in the communities of the European Broadcasting Union and the International Federation of Television Archives. He is a member of two steering groups organised by the National Library of Finland: the national joint search service, Finna.fi, and the Finnish Thesaurus and Ontology Service, Finto.fi. His work currently focuses on media-related artificial intelligence applications, process development and data economy.
