Abstract
Workplace technology investments hold significant potential for corporate real estate (CRE) and facilities management (FM), yet a considerable number of these endeavours have faltered. Drawing on case studies and business analysis, this paper elucidates the underlying factors contributing to such failures, including inadequate planning, deficient employee training, data security vulnerabilities and vendorrelated challenges. By distilling these lessons, we uncover recurring pitfalls and offer actionable strategies, emphasising the imperative of strategic clarity, robust change management, data security diligence and prudent vendor selection. Moreover, this paper provides current business strategy and trends, enabling executives to benchmark their initiatives effectively and navigate the dynamic landscape of workplace technology investments with foresight.

Author's Biography
John C. Wang is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Co-Founder of IAdea, a maker of room scheduling panels and desk booking devices for the smart workplace. IAdea has been in the digital signage business since 2000 and has worked with various software companies to deliver over 1 million screens around the globe. Passionate about the current and future development of the digital signage industry, John co-founded the web-based Signage Business Group at the World Wide Web Consortium. He currently serves as Co-Founder and Vice Chairman of the Digital Solutions Multimedia Asia (DSMA), a non-profit industry group comprising 200+ member companies throughout Asia. John led IAdea to receive Red Herring’s Asia 100 Award as an innovative and fast-growing company. In 2018 he was recognised by the Outstanding Individual Award at the Digital Signage Awards for his contribution in promoting uses of digital signage technology around the globe. He currently sits on the Board of the IT Community of IFMA and is part of the AVIXA Digital Signage Advisory Committee.
