Abstract
This paper provides guidance on how to develop an integrated approach to designing, building and managing facilities in the current business environment. It shows why facility managers need a seat at the table and provides tips on how to work with all the different trades involved in the process to earn that seat. In terms of real estate decision making, taking the case of R.J. O’Brien & Associates as an example, this paper weighs the pros and cons of renovating versus relocating and the importance of employee experience, including neurodiversity.

Author's Biography
Linda Besetzny CFM, is the Director of Global Facilities for R.J. O’Brien & Associates (RJO), the oldest independent futures brokerage and clearing firm in the US. She is based in R.J. O’Brien’s Chicago headquarters. In her eight years with RJO, Linda has helped to negotiate several of her global leases, including opening new offices in Dubai, Paris and Singapore and finding a new location for her London and Toronto offices. Linda has served in many leadership roles, including President of the Chicago Chapter of the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA). Linda believes in paying it forward, including helping to run mentoring programmes through IFMA and R.J. O’Brien.
