Supply chain as key driver for sustainability
Abstract
As the importance of sustainability is rising on the corporate agenda, companies need to provide environmental impact reduction plans to shareholders, banks and other stakeholders. The Paris Agreement urges companies to reduce carbon emissions to net zero by 2050, to achieve the goal of maximum 1.5°C temperature increase. A benchmarking study of sustainability performance was conducted on the environmental reports of 59 companies, and their plans for emission reductions were analysed. From the results, a framework to define CO2 reduction targets to achieve net zero has been devised for companies, starting from now.

Author's Biography
Torsten Becker is Head of the Study Program Supply Chain Management at SRH Berlin University of Applied Sciences since October 2021. He teaches supply chain strategy, supply chain design, business process management and other subjects regarding supply chain management. He has been working in the supply chain management area for 28 years. Torsten started supply chain consulting at PRTM (now a part of PWC &Strategy) in 1995 as a manager and left as a partner. He started the company BESTgroup Consulting in 2003 and has worked with many clients and companies in improving supply chain processes. Before joining PRTM, Torsten worked at the Mercedes-Benz group of companies, starting as a project manager and later as a plant manager. He studied mechanical engineering at Aachen University of Technology and received his PhD from the machine tool laboratory (WZL) in operations management.
