Abstract
This paper looks at the opportunities presented by the latest monitoring technology to minimise risk from movement, deformation or variations in environmental conditions such as noise, dust and vibration. Secondly, it outlines the associated methods used to review, analyse and validate monitoring sensor triggers in the cloud. Lastly, it investigates how a proactive approach to monitoring can reduce legal risk, engage stakeholders and improve public relations.

Author's Biography
Nick Blenkarn BSc (Hons), MSc, MRICS, MInstCES, MPWI is a Chartered Geomatics Surveyor with a Master’s degree from University College London who has 30 years’ experience in geomatics (land surveying). Involved with reality capture via 3D laser scanning from 2004, Nick has managed a variety of survey projects such as King’s Cross station refurbishment and has spoken at conferences in Las Vegas, Hong Kong and UAE on 3D scanning, Scan2BIM and 3D visualisation. In 2009, he set up Severn’s scan to building information modelling (BIM) capability and aided in preparing one of the first surveys for BIM execution plans. Nick is also a STEM ambassador, a judge for the West Midlands region RICS Awards and is a visiting lecturer on reality capture and visualisation at a number of UK universities.
