Abstract
This paper aims to educate airport operators in how to be better prepared for an active threat incident. The paper does not discuss preventative measures but focuses on lessons learned from a real-life incident that took place in 2017. Information included is derived from a detailed after-action report that focuses on mitigating strategies, communication methods, employee training, and business resumption.

Author's Biography
Michael Nonnemacher , AAE, IAP is the Aviation Chief Operating Officer (COO) at the Broward County Aviation Department, which operates the Fort Lauderdale– Hollywood International and North Perry Airports. He is responsible for public safety and facilities management, overseeing the operations, security, information systems, parking, emergency response, maintenance, resource management and information technology divisions as well as North Perry Airport. Michael has been employed at Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport for the past 36 years, working in various positions within the airport operations division and served as the Director of Operations for 11 years prior to his current position. Michael possesses a Bachelor’s degree in aviation management from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and a Master of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University. He is also an Accredited Airport Executive (AAE) through the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE), Accredited through Airport’s Council International (ACI) as an International Airport Professional (IAP), and is active in the pilot community.
