Abstract
This paper aims to provide insights into counter-extremism measures and how these may be applied by financial institutions as part of their counterterrorist financing controls. The paper suggests that extremism ‘red flags' could be used as a pre-emptive measure against terrorist financing.

Author's Biography
Richard Wall is the Money Laundering Reporting Officer at Bank J. Safra Sarasin (Gibraltar) Ltd, London Branch, responsible for all aspects of financial crime prevention. Over his 20-year career he has worked within the banking, asset management, wealth management and multi-asset class brokerage sectors and has engaged in improving industry best practice. He has presented at the National Terrorist Financial Investigation International Training Course, a programme designed to share UK counterterrorism practices with delegates from all over the world engaged in counterterrorist investigations.
