Abstract
What is the role of data governance in today’s corporate real estate (CRE) organisation? This paper aims to lay out the importance of following a proven approach to developing a data strategy, advancing data maturity, developing critical data analytics and meeting the increasing pressure for accountability in CRE operations. The reader will learn about familiar challenges and the importance of aligning cross-functional data in order to guide your organisation on a road to both efficient return on investment (ROI) within your portfolio and compliance with the ever-increasing regulations being imposed on the CRE profession. This paper clearly lays out a roadmap for a journey towards successful data governance, or if you are already on that path, a validation of where you are on the maturity curve.

Phil is a prolific writer and speaker, having written over 40 articles and feature pieces and spoken at corporate real estate (CRE) and facility management (FM) conferences over 20 times since founding EBUSINESS STRATEGIES.
Johan Wessels is the Senior Vice President of Strategic Advisory Services at EBUSINESS STRATEGIES and is the practice lead for their CRE Data Services. Johan has considerable experience in guiding clients on their digital transformation journeys and supporting them with building their organisation and technology capabilities and skills to meet their strategic and operational workplace goals. This includes supporting the development and implementation of data management practices, aligning business processes to drive data quality, building individual and team competency, identifying and addressing legacy data challenges, and implementing technology solutions with associated data migration and integration. Johan is an accomplished industrial engineer and management consultant who has guided and supported the delivery of projects for numerous Fortune 500 companies, domestic and international, within various industries including oil and gas/energy, financial, auto, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and government. Johan holds industrial and mechanical engineering degrees from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa.
