Author's Biography

Bernie Smith MCABE. C BUILD E. FCIOB started his career in construction as an apprentice bricklayer and quickly moved into management in his early 20s. He then worked for the Prince’s Trust, teaching building skills to young people wanting to enter the construction industry. At the age of 30, Bernie took up the position of Clerk of Works for the Borough of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk. Three years later he accepted the position of Regional Building Surveyor for a major high street electrical retailer, where he worked for a further five years. Redundancy required Bernie to rethink his future, and he then decided to set up his own construction company, which he has successfully run for nearly 30 years.
