Out of chaos comes order: Implementing a trusted digital repository in the Webster Institute for the History of Astronomy at the Adler Planetarium

Abstract

This case study discusses the process that the Webster Institute for the History of Astronomy at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago, Illinois is following to create a trusted digital repository (TDR) for digital assets related to its library, archival and museum collection, particularly focused on images. Balancing the desire for a system that allows for access and use of the assets with a desire to apply principles of digital preservation, the Adler is working with a vendor to develop a TDR that not only emphasises preservation but also allows for some functionalities of a digital asset management system.
