Abstract
EU regulations mandate the use of customer identity verification and authentication measures to ensure virtual currencies are not used for money laundering activities or the financing of terrorism. This paper explores these obligations in the context of electronic attestation, the European Digital Identity Wallet and the proposed amendment to the eIDAS Regulation.

Author's Biography
Ignacio Alamillo-Domingo is Legal Counsel for Logalty. He also collaborates with the iDerTec Research Group at the University of Murcia. He is a doctor of law and practising lawyer with multiple certifications in technological practice, and more than 100 publications to his name. He is actively involved in digital identity and blockchain standardisation activities with ISO Technical Committee 307, CEN-CLC Joint Technical Committee 19 and the ETSI Electronic Signatures and Infrastructures Technical Committee.
