This paper describes in detail the journey that Copenhagen Airport (CPH) has embarked on towards the full replacement of the legacy core airport IT systems with a state-of-the-art, modern data platform supporting the high digital ambitions in its business strategy. It informs about the growing IT challenges requiring a radical approach, the bold vision for a ‘smart airport’, the strong organisational implementation setup and finally the details of the truly data-driven platform that has been developed as a result.

Author's Biography
Christian Poulsen has been working with mission critical software development and use of technology to drive business transformation and growth since the beginning of his career. With over 30 years of experience across sectors such as airports, processing, construction, engineering, telco, transport and professional services, Christian has delivered numerous technology projects, products and business transformations. Currently, Christian is Group COO and CIO within Copenhagen Airports and is a serving board member for Smarter Airports A/S in tandem.

Esben Kolind is part of the data and digital team that promotes the use of data and digital tools to optimise operational efficiency, increase airport revenue and provide a great passenger experience throughout the airport. During his ten years in the aviation industry, Esben has built considerable experience in the field of modelling and analysing airport processes ranging from curb to gate. He has optimised the existing planning models for both check-in allocation and security staffing, ensuring significant efficiency gains in both areas.
