Abstract
Geneva Airport is embarking on a revolutionary new programme to make its Terminal facilities future proof and aligned with the changes our industry is facing. Starting with a clean slate — thinking in opportunities, not only constraints — set the fundamentals for the feasibility study on phased implementation, given COVID-19 budget constraints. The journey that the airport and its consultant NACO undertook to reach this point is worth sharing with our industry partners.

Author's Biography
André Schneider joined Genève Aéroport as CEO in September 2016. Before this he has been Vice-President, Resources and Infrastructures at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédéral de Lausanne, Managing Director and COO of the World Economic Forum, as well as building and leading an IT consulting team for IBM. He has a PhD in computer science from the University of Geneva. Before this, he has studied and played as a classical orchestra musician in several German and Swiss symphony orchestras.
Joeri Aulman is an airport planner and project manager for NACO, the aviation planning and design company of the Royal HaskoningDHV Group, a Dutch consultancy group with expertise in aviation, ports, water, urban and transport planning, design and engineering. NACO was GRI’s appointed consultant for the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) development of the Airport Operators’ Sector Supplement (AOSS) in cooperation with the multi-stakeholder airport working group. Joeri has a Masters of Architecture from Delft University and has spent over a decade in developing economies working on aviation and urban infrastructure projects for private clients, helping them with the sustainable performance of their assets.
Peter Rieff is an Airport Architect with NACO, Netherlands Airport Consultants — the niche airport company of the multi-disciplinary planning, design and engineering Royal HaskoningDHV Group. Peter has been fascinated by aviation and airports from a young age. The technical complexity of an airport in combination with a focus on customer experience make the airport one of the most interesting building typologies. He was one of the key contributors to the Geneva Terminal Ambition Plan and has similarly worked on leading airports such as Amsterdam Airport, Kuala Lumpur International Airport and the New Mexico-City International Airport. Before joining NACO, Mr Rieff worked for the Office of Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) on various large-scale building.
