Abstract
This paper provides an overview of the issues that organisations face with regard to the preservation of the analogue audiovisual material in their archival collections. It discusses what stewards can do right now to take better care of their collections, as well as to provide resources for training and funding opportunities. The paper gives particular attention to inventories, preservation planning, storage and funding.

Author's Biography
Biz Maher Gallo is the Statewide Digitization Initiatives Coordinator at the Library of Michigan. After receiving her undergraduate degree in film studies, she worked in the film industry, from post production to on-set coordination, before turning her passion for creating film into preserving those parts of the cultural record encapsulated in audiovisual media. She received her master of science in information from the University of Michigan School of Information with a focus on archives and records management and the preservation of information, and has since been helping cultural heritage institutions preserve their audiovisual collections through archival reformatting.
Sarah Mainville is the Media Preservation Librarian at Michigan State University Libraries. In this role, she heads the Media Preservation unit, which leads and advocates for the stewardship of both analogue and digital media within the Library, and develops policy and workflows around digital preservation. She received her master of science in information from the University of Michigan’s School of Information with a specialisation in information preservation and library science. Her professional interests include digital preservation advocacy, magnetic tape care and ethics in preservation.
