Abstract
This paper describes the successes and setbacks of a 12-year project to digitise over 150,000 hours of audiovisual footage from France’s overseas territories. After a brief overview of the major milestones of the project, the paper focuses on technical and metadata processing issues, and the various unexpected problems that were faced along the way.

Author's Biography
Geneviève Abadie is a project manager for INA’s Technical Department, where she is in charge of the overseas digitisation programme. She is also responsible for integrating the project’s media and metadata into INA’s databases.
Brice Amouroux is Deputy Head of INA’s Technical Department. He is in charge of project management, with responsibility for mass digitisation plans as well as custom high-resolution restoration projects.
Gérard Letienne is the founder and Honorary President of Vectracom. Thanks to his engineering background and prior roles at SFP and Thomson, he is an expert in archives preservation as well as equipment maintenance and process management.
Sandrine Boulon is a linguist with a scientific background who has been collaborating with Reverso for more than 18 years. She has taken part in various language and data processing projects in the fields of translation, correction, data management and dictionary editing.
