Abstract
This paper discusses a number of audio forensics and provenance analysis technologies that were developed for media verification and media asset management, describing the motivation behind them, the methods used to develop them, and the way they are applied in practice. The paper also shows how the technologies may be adapted and applied to other domains. Finally, it outlines why it is crucial for research and development to follow an iterative, interactive process that does not require large budgets, but rather the willingness of users (here: broadcasters) and researchers to conduct experiments with limited risk and investment instead of waiting for ‘perfect projects’ and ‘perfect technologies’.

Author's Biography
Patrick Aichroth worked as an IT freelancer and software developer, before becoming a researcher at Fraunhofer IDMT in 2003. Since 2006, he is head of the media distribution and security research group at Fraunhofer IDMT. He has initiated and managed various industrial and publicly funded research projects, and is especially interested in developing and applying technologies to address trust, privacy and security challenges within the media context.
Luca Cuccovillo is a researcher at Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology. Having earned his MSc in computer science and engineering at the Politecnico di Milano, he is now pursuing a PhD at Ilmenau University of Technology, researching the topic of audio signal analysis for multimodal tampering detection.
Milica Gerhardt is a researcher at Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology. She received her MSc in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of Novi Sad and is currently pursuing her PhD at Ilmenau University of Technology. Her research focuses on methods for provenance analysis and the detection or reuse of audio-visual content.
