Abstract
Data governance is gaining traction as a core competency in leading CRE organisations. Yet, it is still very new to many CRE leaders. This paper explains what data governance means, how to assess where an organisation is today, and how to build data governance capabilities for the future. The Data Governance Maturity Model and a readiness assessment are introduced as techniques to guide CRE leaders and their teams as they prepare for the changes ahead.

Author's Biography
Ian Cameron is Open Standards Consortium for Real Estate’s (OSCRE’s) Chief Innovation Officer and is a recognised thought-leader and practitioner in business transformation and information management in the real estate and facilities industry. He brings over 30 years’ experience working with many of the industry’s most innovative corporate real estate (CRE) organisations. Ian has previously held executive positions in large management consulting firms, and has over 15 years’ experience working with the OSCRE Standards. As OSCRE’s CIO, Ian leads many of OSCRE’s innovative initiatives, such as the curriculum for the OSCRE Academy’s Data Governance in Real Estate programme. Ian also leads OSCRE training in standards implementation as well as programmes for engaging industry leaders in knowledge exchange and community-building. In professional education, Ian has received ‘Top-Rated Faculty’ awards in areas such as Enterprise Program Management, Change Leadership, and Information Technology Strategy for real estate and facilities executives.
