Abstract
COVID-19 has brought unprecedented change to countless occupations, and for privacy professionals it has been no exception. As we are approaching the end of the year, this paper summarises the main data privacy challenges faced by privacy professionals due to the pandemic in 2020 and how it has impacted the data privacy profession as such. Has COVID-19 resulted in a shift leading to a new normal for the profession, or has it been business as usual? Taking also into consideration other meaningful events that have shaped 2020, such as the Black Lives Matter movement, Schrems II and Brexit, the paper concludes with what this year has meant for data privacy and an outlook on what to expect next.

Author's Biography
Sabrina Palme is co-founder and CEO at Palqee Technologies, a data privacy management platform for data protection officers (DPOs), data protection officer as a service (DPOaaS) providers and small and medium enterprises that is easy to use and enables engagement on data privacy with the whole workforce, covering the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD). She is also CIPP/E certified and an adviser on privacy enhancing and emerging technology innovation to a family office. Prior to her involvement in technology innovation and data privacy, Sabrina learned about the power of personal data through her work in marketing, where she managed international marketing campaigns. Sabrina holds an MBA from HULT International Business School and is a certified blockchain expert by the University of Oxford and Saïd Business School. She has worked and lived in over five countries, speaks German, English and Spanish fluently, and is currently teaching herself Korean.
