Invite colleaguesVideo: The new frontier in metadata standards
Abstract
In spite of the exponential rise in the popularity of video — both in terms of those creating video and those viewing it — numerous challenges are preventing organisations from taking full advantage of all that this medium has to offer. Businesses have long recognised the complexities involved with video publishing, including the lack of universal standards, such as different devices and browsers requiring the use of different file formats or codecs. This paper explores the state of video metadata today, including their unique characteristics and attributes, as well as the various types of video metadata that exist in the market. It also offers perspective on how organisations are viewing the use of video and video metadata in the corporate world. Finally, the paper summarises the way digital asset management can be a conduit between the complexities of video usage and the metadata that serve as the key for businesses worldwide to unlock greater value from this communication medium.
