Abstract
The use of data to improve the efficiency and the utilisation of the electronic health record has become an increasingly important topic in informatics. This paper looks briefly at why it is important to focus on the development of metrics and key indicators for provider and clinician utilisation and efficiency within the electronic health record. With the use of this data workflows can be developed within the electronic health record to decrease variation and provide a more efficient and value-driven approach to provide healthcare delivery. Workflow improvement and standardisation can also lead to improved clinical and financial performance.
