Invite colleaguesWeathering an academic strike: Using two-way communication and an emphasis on principles and values to maintain trust and reputation
Abstract
This case study outlines the blueprint developed by one postsecondary institution in Canada to communicate with stakeholders during the longest academic strike in its 50-year history. It examines the values, principles and frameworks that were used to ground its response and presents the strategies, tactics and messages deployed at all stages of the labour disruption. The paper provides evidence to demonstrate how a commitment to two-way communication enabled the institution to attain business outcomes and maintain its historically strong relationship with its students and employees.
