Abstract
This paper focuses on how the Western Washington University Advancement office built an engagement programme from the ground up by utilising the expertise from a variety of different sources, including alumni board members, faculty and staff. This paper provides examples that can be adapted to fit any sized organisation.

Author's Biography
Jeniene Bengtsson is the Associate Director, Alumni and Constituent Relations, Western Engaged at Western Washington University (WWU) in Bellingham. She has worked in University Advancement for more than 13 years and is a 2004 graduate of WWU, following her family Viking tradition. Post-graduation, Jeniene began working in the WWU Alumni Relations Office, supporting the Alumni Association Board of Directors. During her 13-year tenure with the alumni office, she has held multiple positions, including administrative assistant, office manager and, currently, assistant director, Alumni and Constituent Relations, Western Engaged.
Frances Badgett is the Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications for University Advancement at Western Washington University (WWU). She has been with WWU since January 2017 and has lived in Bellingham, Washington, since 2001. She holds a BA from Hollins University and an MFA in writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts.
Deborah Dewees is Assistant Vice President for Alumni, Annual Giving & Advancement Communications and Executive Director of WWU Alumni Association and is part of the University Advancement leadership team, providing senior leadership and strategic direction to the areas of alumni relations, annual giving and Advancement marketing and communications. Prior to this role and for the past two decades, Deborah served WWU as Assistant Director for Planned Giving and Director of Development for the College of Business & Economics, College of Arts and Sciences, Fairhaven College, Wilson Library and other key university programmes.
