Abstract
This paper provides a guide and reminder on how risk in ground conditions is dealt with in construction law and building and engineering contracts. It is aimed at contractors and employers under building contracts, and also surveyors, architects and engineers. Lawyers who do not specialise in construction law may find it helpful as an overview.

Author's Biography
Philip Harris is a partner and head of construction at Wright Hassall Solicitors, Leamington Spa, UK. He is a construction solicitor with 31 years’ experience. He has rights of audience in the High Court and is a member of Wright Hassall LLP. He is an adjudicator on five national panels, a chartered arbitrator and a mediator.
