Abstract
Artificial intelligence, facial recognition technology (AIFRT) will change the way we all relate to the world around us. The questions AIFRT raises challenge existing ideological questions. Economies around the globe and society are changing; therefore, everyone must be ready to embrace change. For the UK to meet its potential and lead the world in shaping the future for society, AIFRT policy must be committed for the longterm, agreed by consensus and informed by views on all sides. This paper considers the UK’s General Data Protection Regulations, the Data Protection Act 2018, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2019, while reviewing potential conflict of global privacy laws against innovation and society improvements.

Steve Wilkinson is a subject matter industry expert with more than 20 years of successful experience. Steve Wilkinson stands at the forefront of the fastest moving world of data privacy. He has spent the past 7 years bringing around a shift from old style privacy awareness into the 21st century. Coming from a risk and compliance background, Steve is a person with a risk-based approach to data security systems and with deep privacy industry knowledge. Steve has been a prolific guest speaker at over 12 events within the past 2 years, mainly speaking on the impacts of privacy and data protection. Steve has received numerous awards, one of which is being recognised as being within the top 100 most influential people within the UK for pollution reduction, which demonstrates his diversity in work. Steve has championed the awareness for regulatory compliance for a number of years, promoting all sizes of companies while providing information and recommendations to the regulatory authorities and governments on a global aspect. Steve now works for the Department of Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) as their Subject Matter Expert and is involved with the production of new legislation codes of practice relating to data protection and advising ministers, working closely with Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), advising DCMS on eprivacy, Information Commissioner’s Offce (ICO), Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), etc.
