Mitigating risk before, during and after a revenue cycle conversion

Julie Kay-Bonetti

Abstract

This paper reviews the common issues organisations face when implementing new revenue cycle software and how to adequately prepare for the inevitable disruption that accompanies such an implementation. While it is easy to assume that the focus of an organisation’s revenue cycle would fall to patient access and patient financial services, this paper also outlines the importance of participation and cohesion that spans the entire healthcare organisation. The considerations in this paper are designed to identify areas where process improvement is needed to ultimately help mitigate risk before, during and after a revenue cycle conversion.

Keywords: revenue cycle; revenue cycle management; implementation; conversion; process improvement; metrics; patient access; patient financial services; finance; change management; transformation
